The Yukon River Quest is the world’s longest annual paddling race, and it has just officially entered its 21st year. 124 teams, 260 paddlers from 13 countries set off today at noon from Rotary Park in Whitehorse to begin the 715 km journey to Dawson City – it is the largest Yukon River Quest since the race began in 1999. All sorts of watercrafts will take part from standard tandem canoes, solo kayaks, voyageur canoes and even stand up paddleboards.  There are mandatory stops in Carmacks and Coffee Creek, but even still, teams finish the gruelling race in unbelievable times. The record was set in 2008 when team Kisseynew completed the quest in just 39 hours and 32 minutes!  Will that record be broken this year? Watch our video to see the exciting mass start as boaters run from Rotary Park to their boats on the river bank, and begin what is sure to be an exciting race.
