Arts in the Park embarked on their 23rd year of free music hosted by Music Yukon at LePage park in downtown Whitehorse May 21st.
The first show was the All City Jazz Band who completed their finale of the season to 150 sun-basking locals and tourists, while Michel Gignac maintained the visual artist tent with his collection of recycled copper which over the week will turn into a creation yet unknown to the artist. The producer and music programmer of this years season long festival are Geneviève Doyon and assistant producer, Paris Pick with Ryan McNally manning the sound technicians board. The All Season Jazz Band completes their successful season of touring Yukon at this stage and swiftly brought the tempo of the festival up. Continuing this week will be l’Écoles en Spectacle where students in various Francophone schools will preform a variety of acts. The first evening show of the season will be Legs up Hands Down a quintet of locals who cover a wide variety of energetic music.
Thursday at noon will present the Whitehorse Chamber Orchestra which will be certain to fill the stage and the block of 3rd and Wood with plenty of sound. To complete the week Jim Vautour will perform an hour of music from his songwriting library. Don’t forget to see how the copper creations turn out at the visual artist tent with Michel Gignac. Have a happy and musical summer!
